Month 1 1/2

Baby Rachel (it's what everyone's calling you),
I cannot believe you're already 6 weeks old! Everything that's said about having a baby is so cliche, but it's really true: life will never be the same; you never knew you could love something so much; they grow up so quickly.
You have been an absolute delight to have. For the most part, you're a very content baby. You seemed intelligent even from the very beginning. You came out wide eyed and trying to stuff your fist in your mouth. You could pick your head up off my chest and now you can almost hold your head up while in a sitting up position, and you can lift it up while lying on your stomach. Your first week home you would look into our eyes and we hope you could see that we love you more than anything. Now you can follow us with your eyes as we walk around the room. You started smiling in your sleep probably around the second week and soon after started smiling at us. Now I count on those smiles early in the mornings when I change your diaper. Sometimes you even let out a laugh and we just eat it up.
For the past few weeks you've started paying more and more attention to things around you. At first, you would look at lights and things that were red (the curtains in our bedroom). You still love to look at a Vettriano picture hanging by the bed and a pillow in our room with sequins and flowers on it. You now love the bears hanging above your mobile and the caterpillar hanging from the side of the playpen.

You've had lots of visitors and plenty of admirers when we go out somewhere. Everyone always tells us how beautiful you are, but we already know. Your dad and I just sit and watch you and soak you in, because you are growing so fast, and nothing could make us happier. We love you, Rach.
